About This Product
Located in the Nakuru Province in Kenya's Rift Valley, the Mutungati Farmers Cooperative Society pulls in coffee from between 200 and 300 smallholder members in the area. Cherries are hand-picked and delivered the same day to the Mutungati Coffee Factory where they're meticulously sorted by factory staff. Any under ripe or damaged cherries are returned to the producer to take home with them. This initial sorting action is the first in a long chain of quality-driven practices and helps incentivize farmers to only pick the ripest cherry they can. Coffee is received by the "Cherry Clerk" who is responsible for keeping carefully records of how much cherry each producer delivers. Coffees from the Nakuru Province are all grown at high altitudes, between 1800 and 2200 meters above sea level. With altitudes this high, the low temperatures can make it difficult for some trees to thrive. Those that do succeed, however, can result in some really outstanding lots like this one.
