About This Coffee (From Bold Bean's Head Roaster):
"This coffee comes to us from the COCARIVE Cooperative (The Regional Cooperative of Coffee Growers of Vale do Rio Verde Ltd) located in Carmo de Minas the Mantiqueira de Minas region of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The region of Mantiqueira de Minas is located on the Minas Gerais side of Serra da Mantiqueira, in the southern part of the state of Minas Gerais. There is a multi-generational tradition of producing high quality coffee on the small farms in this area. The coffees of Mantiqueira de Minas are some of the most awarded in Brazil. In 2011, Mantiqueira de Minas was recognized as a Geographical Indication (IG) for its tradition and worldwide reputation for producing specialty coffees with a distinguished flavor profile (terroir). The high quality reflected in coffees from this region is a direct result of the terroir and the local know-how for producing and processing special coffees.
Unlike many other regions of Brazil, known for huge estates and mechanized farms, Mantiqueira de Minas is composed mainly of small farms perched on the slopes of the surrounding mountains.
Currently made up of 661 members, COCARIVE was founded on May 7, 1961, thanks to the entrepreneurial spirit and unity of pioneering farmers from Carmo de Minas and neighbor cities. Their founding objective was to transform the local coffee production into a point of reference, in both productivity and excellence, in producing high quality coffee, thereby promoting the development of this important micro-region of southern Minas Gerais."
